Over the years, cancer has touched Springfield Plastics Inc., in many different ways. Whether it be an employee, family member, customer, or community member it is never easy and it's always devastating. Springfield Plastics wanted a way to give back and help fight for finding a cure for this horrible disease.

In 2014, Springfield Plastics launched their first Drain for the Cure campaign raising more than $189,000 since inception. Springfield Plastics is currently hosting its fifth annual Drain for the Cure and 100 percent of the donations go straight to the Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU. The fundraising campaign runs throughout the month of October and raises awareness for all type of cancer. The donations support patient care, research, education, and outreach programs established to improve cancer care at the Simmons Cancer Institute at Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Springfield, Illinois.

As always with this disease, cancer patients and their families feel helpless and look to the brilliant minds at Hospitals and Universities for answers. The Hospitals and Universities lead the way in research, clinical trials, and cancer treatment advancements to give hope that one day there will be a cure. In addition to patient care and research, Simmons Cancer Institute also has a growing list of complimentary programs like Adapted Yoga, Reiki massage, Drumming, QI Gong, Pilates, Tai Chi and other exercise programs designed for cancer patients.

The team of doctors, radiologists, counselors, therapists, nurses and medical staff come together to develop a plan for each patient. After a cancer diagnoses, patients leave with a treatment plan and the comfort of knowing their cancer care team is working to provide the best possible outcome.

It is important to Springfield Plastics to be able to give back to the community that they have called home for the past 40 years. The support for the campaign is always overwhelming as so many people want a way to make a difference.

If you would like to contribute and join the campaign, checks can be made payable to SIU Foundation and can be mailed or dropped off at Springfield Plastics located at 7300 W.
