30 Days of Thanks helps Evertek give back

By Staff | Oct 17, 2016

EVERTEK employees gather for a publicity photo announcing the company’s 30 Days of Thanks program.

EVERLY (Evertek) – Experience is a great teacher in many areas of life and rural communications is no different.

Evertek, based in Everly, draws on a corporate history dating back to 1905, to serve rural customers with communications services, said Roxanne White, Evertek’s chief executive officer.

“We’re serving some third generation customers now in the Everly area,” White said. “The main difference is today’s customers need huge Internet capacity which also needs to be extremely reliable.

“Here in the Everly area, we have fiber-to-the-home which delivers ultra-fast Internet, currently up to 50Mb, as well as HDTV and phone services. Fiber provides the best, most affordable and reliable Internet you can get.

“When we saw the opportunity 30 years ago to help more customers in rural areas, our parent company United Farmers Telephone Co., formed Evertek. The goal was to buy and provide services, using emerging licensed wireless technology, to customers who could not get the services they needed.

“We started with TV services back then, which by the 1990s transformed into the early days of licensed wireless Internet. Now we have more than 50 licensed wireless Internet systems.”

Chris Dodd, Evertek’s assistant general manager said, “When someone comes into Everly the first thing they see is our 450-foot tower which was the tower we used to deploy our first wireless system back in the 1980s.

It’s hard to believe how far we have come in such a short amount of time.

“Over the years, we’ve worked with local coops, cities, and farmers to utilize existing structures when possible to enable us to more quickly deploy our systems. This helps keep systems more economical – keeping our prices affordable for our customers.”

White added, “For 30 years, Evertek has provided outstanding services to the rural households who had no other options at fair prices. It’s our mission to serve our neighbors with the best communications possible. It’s who we are as a company.”

To celebrate 30 years in business, Evertek will donate $30 for every installation of new service to a charity chosen by the customer, as well as discount the price of installation by $30.

In addition, the company is doing “30 days of thanks,” where customers can sign-up for daily drawings for $30 gift cards to local businesses.
