100-Year Project

June 13, 2012 - Dana Lantz
This morning we sent our annual Century Farm magazine to the printer to bring to life what myself, my sales staff, the editorial staff, and the creative department has been working on since the second week of March. This 96 page, glossy wrapped, publication is scheduled to come out in our June 22nd issue of Farm News and features a recently awarded Century Farm family in each of our 33 Iowa counties.

These featured farms are a part of the landscape whose families are deeply rooted in the communities. These are our friends, our neighbors and an important part of our past and our future. It is truly a fascinating magazine and one that our readers look forward to each and every year. Over the years I have visited both businesses and homes and noticed this magazine laying around on various coffee tables, desks and waiting areas.

For the many businesses that invested into Century Farms we thank you. This is an award winning publication that we also hand out at the Clay County Fair, Farm News Ag Show, Iowa Pork Congress and Iowa Power Farming Show as well as place on our website for en entire year, giving these businesses exposure throughout the year.

For my staff, the editorial staff, and the creative design team this piece meant hard work, countless hours and at times a little stress. Their dedication, work ethic and superb attitude is sincerely appreciated by me personally as well as the management team. There are very few projects that our company does throughout the year that require the teamwork that Century Farms does. Thank you to each of you that participated in one way or another.

For me personally it meant 4,288 miles over 20 days and all 33 counties visited. It required seeing countless businesses and visiting with old friends and getting to know new ones. I appreciate everyone who gave me a few minutes out of their busy schedules and I hope their investment ends up being a sound one with leads and sales along the way.

I hope that those of you that read this blog take time to read our 2012 edition of Century Farms either in the print version or online version. You know it’s amazing where the farming industry is today in technology to where it was when our ancestors first started farming our land. I have seen photos of my grandfather threshing and using horses to do a majority of the work and I certainly remember doing things on the farm that are no longer required today.

Last week I was at a committee meeting where the guest speaker was a technology expert with NEW Coop. Wow! A good friend of mine made the comment that his son is on Facebook more when he is in the tractor than any other time. With GPS and Auto Steer he now has plenty of time to explore the social network. Now that I think of it when I first started with Farm News and made a phone call to an advertiser who mentioned being in the tractor during planting or harvest season I would get off the phone because I knew he was busy. Now they have all the time in the world to talk and now they know I know their little secret.

From my team and myself I hope everyone enjoys our 2012 edition of Century Farms. Until next time.
